GILBERTVILLE — Dorothy L. Fischels, 72, of Gilbertville, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at her home.

She was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Gilbertville, daughter of John and Margaret Schommer Phillips. She married Nicholas Joseph Fischels Jr. on May 2, 1955, in Gilbertville. He died Jan. 26, 2002.

She owned and operated her own beauty salon in her home for 50 years. She also ran a daycare service.

Survived by a son, Mark (fiancé Sandy Lacy) of Waterloo; two daughters, Gail (Mike) Brice of Marion and Sherry Youngblut (fiancé Timm Staebell) of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren, Drew Fischels, Mitch Fischels, Alex Brice, Blayke Brice, Camryn Brice, Hilary Youngblut, Nathan Youngblut and Tyler Fischels; three sisters: Theresa Klein, Marjorie Reuter and Mary Hames, all of Gilbertville; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Phillips, Yvonne Phillips and Ida Phillips.

Preceded in death by eight brothers: James, Leo (Lorena), Gerald (Norma), Roger (Josephine), John, Joseph, George and Andrew; a sister, Magdeline (Vincent) Kurtenbach; and three brothers-in-law, Norbert Klein, Norman Reuter and John Hames.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Forester rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to The Bosco System and Cedar Valley Hospice.
