WATERLOO — Roy D. Halvorson, 85, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 30, 1926, in New Solum, Minn., son of Morris and Hannah Hellquist Halvorson. He married Evelyn Edith Christianson on Sept. 20, 1947, in Viking, Minn.

Mr. Halvorson graduated from high school in Marshall County, Minn. He was employed as storeroom manager for Waterloo Community Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II during the Japanese occupation.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Eddie (Sue) and Nickie (Kaye), both of Waterloo; a daughter, Vickie (Jesse) Wohlfeil of Alexandria, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Trevor (Gina) and Tracee Halvorson, both of Waterloo, Trenton (Pam) Halvorson of Marion, Adam (Tami) Halvorson of Cedar Falls, Jessica (Craig) Dennison of Fulton, Mo., Ellen Halvorson of Cedar Rapids, and Leanza and Zachary Wohlfeil, both of Alexandria; and nine great-grandchildren, Meghan, Kaela, Carter, Kelsey, Cooper and Taylor Halvorson, Ayla and Dera Dennison, and Wade Rasmussen.

Preceded in death by an infant son and daughter; three brothers, Charles, Kenny and Richard; and a sister, Olive Ann LeMeirs.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo American Legion Post 38 and VFW Post 1623. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
