Elliot J. Ames, 87, of Waterloo died, Friday at Sunnycrest Nursing Center Dysart from a lengthy illness.

He was born May 25, 1919 in Waterloo son of John and Anna Goldhagen Ames.

Mr. Ames was a veteran of WWII serving on the USS Hyde in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Rath Packing in the Pork Cut for 34 years retiring in 1979.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and their families and several caregivers.

Preceded in death by four brothers: Donald, Elmer, Sylvester, and Lester; three sisters: Bernice Wilson, Evelyn Hellman, and Madeline Ames.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
