DRAUDE, MAIBACH, RICHTSMEIER, BRAYER, HOELZER, GUSSIE, BUSBY

WATERLOO, IOWA - John Francis Draude Sr., 86, of Ridgeway Place, and formerly of 819 Wisner Dr., died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, of congestive heart failure.

He was born on April 24, 1920, in Waterloo, the son of Valentine and Josephine (Maibach) Draude.

He married Edna Otilla Richtsmeier, on October 16, 1943, in Lake Hurst, New Jersey. She died on May 28, 2002. Mr. Draude was employed as a conductor for 43 years, with the Illinois Central Railroad, retiring in 1984. He also delivered flowers for Kelvingtons and Rainbow Florist for 25 years.

He was member of St. Edwards Catholic Church for 40 years and was lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also influential in the building of Columbus High School and the Knights of Columbus Hall. He was veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy from 1937-1945.

He is survived by three sons: Ret. Col. John F. (Bonnie) Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Ret. Cap. Joseph A. (Kathy) of Orange Park, Florida, and James (Chris) of Waterloo; two daughters, Jean Draude of Cedar Falls, and Joan (Mark) Brayer of Janesville, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: John F. (Jill) Draude III, Matt Draude, Joseph A. Draude Jr. Lt., Jeff Draude ,Julie (Kevin) Alsup, Philip Draude, Michael Draude, and Sarah Brayer; two great-granddaughters, Jenna Draude and Ashley Alsup; two great-grandsons, Jackson Draude, and Austin Alsup; and two sisters, Dr. Margaret (Julia) Hoelzer of Rome, Georgia, Sister Rita Draude O.S.F. of Denver, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Henry (Marge), Tony (Peggy), and Rev. Frank Draude; five sisters: Mary Draude, Joan Draude, Ann Draude, Augusta "Gussie" (Bob) Busby, and an infant sister, Hilda Draude.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Mended Hearts, or to the church.
