WATERLOO — Raymond “Ray” R. Ruane, 83, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Waterloo, son of Thomas and Frances McGuire Ruane. He married Doris Ann Heller July 14, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. She died Nov. 26, 1996.

Mr. Ruane served with the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was employed at John Deere for 42 years, retiring in 1984.

Survived by a son, Michael (Lesa) of Waterloo; a daughter, Janet (Jeff) Duggan of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Ruane and Blake Ruane; a great-grandson, Landon Ruane; two brothers, Robert (Marge) of Braidwood, Ill., and Brother Venard of Los Altos, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Gory of Evergreen Park, Ill., and Rita (Richard) Bast of Livermore, Calif.; and a special friend, Mavis Armstrong of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by three sisters: Alice Albright, Bonnie Asche and Fran Felkins.

Private family graveside services: will be held at Memorial Park. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Ray enjoyed walking and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Yankees fan. Raymond had a heart for animals and loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. Ray will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
