HENNESSY, ACKERMAN, WERTZ, BACHMAN, HRABOUSKY

Helen B. Hennessy, 89, of Ennoble Manor Care Center, formerly of Waterloo, passed away at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Ennoble Manor, Dubuque. She was born June 16, 1923, in Waterloo, daughter of John and Emma Ackerman.

Helen married Francis E. Hennessy on April 23, 1946, at St. Mary’s Church, Waterloo. Francis and Helen celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in April 2012, and Francis preceded Helen in death June 17, 2012.

Helen was an avid volunteer at church, a member of the St. Francis Hospital Service Club and a 60-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She loved to collect recipes and cookbooks and knew her way around the kitchen, as her grandchildren will attest.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Patricia (Dr. Thomas) Wertz; four grandchildren, Brian (Sheila), Timothy, Jennifer (Dr. Thomas) Dillon and Dr. Joseph (Dr. Maureen) Wertz; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Morgan; two brothers, John and Martin Ackerman; two sisters, Louise (James) Bachman and Lucile (the late Milton) Hrabousky; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley (the late Richard) and Lois (the late Victor) Ackerman.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Richard, Donald and Victor Ackerman; a sister-in-law, Bea Ackerman; and a brother-in-law, Milton Hrabousky.

Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at St. Raphael Cathedral, Dubuque, with the Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Graveside services will be at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, on Monday, July 30, at 11 a.m. Friends may greet the family Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque, is entrusted with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Helen Hennessy Memorial Fund.
