EVANSDALE — Virgil L. Marvets Jr., 62, of Evansdale, died at home Wednesday, July 25, 2012.

He was born Aug. 8, 1949, in Waterloo, son of Virgil and Marion Scott Marvets. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Marion and “Wild” Bill Helgeson. He married Kathy Rose Johnson on Sept. 30, 1968, in Evansdale.

Mr. Marvets served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict. He retired from John Deere in 2002 after 30 years as a machinist.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Virgil L. lll and Willie B. (Shana); seven grandchildren; three brothers: Stan Scott, Bill (Aggie) Marvets and Dennis Helgeson, all of Evansdale; and three sisters: Linda Myers of Waterloo, Barbara (Homz) Lord of Broomfield, Colo., and Lori (Mike) Ingram of Evansdale.

Memorial services: noon Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, preceded by two hours of visitation, with inurnment in the mausoleum in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with graveside military rites by Waterloo AMVETS Post 1623, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail.
