WATERLOO, IOWA — Billy Lee DeWiese, 58, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, July 17, at his daughter’s home in Mechanicsville.

He was born on August 28, 1953, in Waterloo, son of James and Mary Mae DeWiese, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Robert Stephens.

Mr. DeWiese was an ironworker for many years and also was a self-employed auto mechanic.

Survived by a daughter, Kari (Chad) Kreel of Mechanicsville; a son, Michael of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Brennen, Brayden, Brycen and Brookelynn Kreel; a brother, Jim (Marsha) of La Porte City; a half brother, Ralph Stephens of Dubuque; a half sister, Kathy Mace of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews, including Shannon (Kristie) DeWiese, Patty (Kevin) Hockey and Joseph (Sara Bantz) DeWiese.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ronnie Schimmel.

Celebration of Life: 6:30 p.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, where visitation begins at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Billy loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed cars and car repair, hunting and fishing. Billy was a generous person who enjoyed helping others.
