WATERLOO, Iowa --- Jovita Maria “Joy” Powers, 90, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 7, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born March 21, 1922, in Fort Dodge, daughter of Osvaldo C. and Maria R. Aurioles Martinez. She married Herman Gonzales, and they later divorced. She then married Leland Powers, and they later divorced.

Ms. Powers worked at Rath Packing Co. for 34 1/2 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Latin American Club.

Survived by her special friend, Max Perez; a son, Andre (Barbara Powers) of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters, Mary Lou (Larry) Dralle of Waterloo and Linda (LeRoy) Cayler-Bean; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Thomas Gonzales; a granddaughter, Christine Marie Cayler; two brothers, Walter and Arnulfo Martinez; and three sisters, Martha Aguilar, Judy Silva and Mary Lou Martinez.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Services, with a 4 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Joy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew she loved them more. She enjoyed singing, crafts, making jewelry, Wii bowling, and she was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family.
