WATERLOO — Lillian M. Thissen, 91, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center following a stroke.

She was born March 22, 1921, in Wesley, daughter of Anthony and Helen Goetz Johnson. She married Edward Thissen on June 18, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Church, Wesley. He died Dec. 9, 2010.

Mrs. Thissen graduated from high school in Wesley, worked as a bookkeeper at K&H Oil, then worked for a time in retail sales in Buffalo, N.Y.

Survived by a daughter, Diane (LeRoy) Buehler of Waterloo; two sons, Mike (Mary) of Davenport and Jeff (Donna) of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Emily Buehler, Greg (Anna Markey) Thissen, Jackie (Matt) Mausser, Kim Thissen, Trisha (Aaron) Carlson, Matt Thissen and Ben Thissen; and seven great-grandchildren, Clayton Buehler, Elijah Buehler, Keaton Markey, Charlie Mausser, Hadley Mausser, Lane Carlson, Emerie Carlson, with one more expected; and a brother-in-law, Martin Hamilton of St. Charles, Mo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Bernie Hamilton; and three brothers, William, Edward and Joseph Johnson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
