CEDAR FALLS — William L. Hoffman, 90, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born May 21, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Clyde L. and Blanch E. Morgan Hoffman. He married Aleen Jean Banning on June 21, 1944. She died Sept. 22, 2003.

Mr. Hoffman graduated from Waterloo East High School and served in the U.S. Navy as a cook during World War II. He was employed as hog buyer with Rath Packing Co. for over 16 years, then was employed with the city of Waterloo for 15 years as health director of Health, Sanitation and Animal Control. Over the years he held a variety of smaller jobs, including Kelly’s Grocery Store, construction work, Whitehead Nash Sales, Fountain Industries, Rasmussen Furniture Sales, Henry’s Drive-In, and auctioneering with his father. He and his wife also owned Bill’s & Jean’s Custom Rock Jewelry for 14 years.

Survived by a son, William L. Jr. (Ellen I) of Grundy Center; a daughter, Janice Jean Hoffman of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Derrick) Dickey, William John “BJ” (Beth Dagger) Hoffman and Adam Paul (Brandie Ascher) Hoffman; and five great-grandchildren, Sean M.L. Dickey, Carson E. Dagger-Hoffman, Peyton John, Brogan Paul and Brooklyn Marie Hoffman.

Preceded in death by a sister, Eva Hoffman Brown; and a brother, Gwen Hoffman.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. His body has been deeded to the University of Iowa. Richardson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
