WATERLOO — Barbara J. Schumacher, 80, of Friendship Village Lakeview Landing, died there Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012.

She was born April 21, 1932, to Roy L. and Lois Sass Necker, and after the death of her mother was adopted by Roy and Lucille Beener Necker in 1937. She married John H. Schumacher on Oct. 1, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo. He died April 6, 1998.

Mrs. Schumacher worked for 54 years in bookkeeping and sales in the Waterloo area, retiring in 1988. She then worked in the office at Friendship Village until 2007.

Survived by a daughter, Debra (Michael) Babinat of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Christina (Tarek) Yacout of Waterloo and Beth (Travis Scott) Riggs of La Porte City; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrew, Hali and Mariah; a half brother, Richard “Dick” Wentworth of Waverly; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Babinat.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
