WATERLOO — Shirley Joann Reab, 72, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 6, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, from complications of dementia.

She was born June 13, 1940, in Buffalo Center, daughter of Lester L. and Anna J. Frib Reab.

Ms. Reab graduated from Mason City High and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She played softball for the U.S. Navy team, and after her military service remained active as a coach and player of fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball. She was inducted into the River City Hall of Fame. She worked for the United Parcel Service and became the first female center manager in the state of Iowa, retiring in 1995.

Survived by a special niece, Shelli Reab; a brother, Lester (Glennavon) Reab of Waterloo; a sister, Leanna (Leo) Johnson of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Emily (William) Reab of Wisconsin;several nieces and nephews and her long-time partner, Gloria Hill.

Preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with burial in the cemetery. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to The Unit at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, or Cedar Bend Humane Society.
