John J. Hoffer, age 77, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Friday, November 17, 2006, at Allen Hospital, in Waterloo.

John was born on February 16, 1929, the son of Albert and Gertrude (Goetz) Hoffer.

He attended St. Mary's School in Waterloo. He served with the Marines during the Korean War in 1950.

He married Donna Lampert Bard on May 19, 1973. She died on May 7, 1993. He then married Helen Eilers on September 5, 1997, in Waterloo. He worked at Rath Packing Company as a meat cutter until their closing. He was a member of the Waterloo Amvets and Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Waterloo; two daughters, Brenda (Jack) Henninger, of Waterloo, and Diane (Lowayne) Kinzebach, of Cedar Falls; three sons: Steve (Mary) Bard, of Shelton, Washington, Dennis Bard, of Nevada, Iowa, and David (Cheryl) Eilers, of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Ruth Hoffer, of Waterloo, and Paul Hoffer, of Gulfport, Mississippi; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Donna; and two brothers, Edward and Robert Hoffer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, where there will be a 7 p.m. Rosary. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to Queen of Peace or Allen College.
