Merlin Ohrt, 78, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Trinity Regional Health System in Bettendorf.
He was born on February 11, 1928 in Waterloo, the son of Theodore and Alfrieda (Lane) Ohrt.
He married Madonna Nelson on February 23, 1963, in Minnesota. Merlin served his country in the Navy during World War II. He worked at John Deere for 31 years, moving machinery. He was a member of the AmVets and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, of Bettendorf; two sons, Lon (Kris) Schwickerath, of Alburnett, and John (Kathie) Ohrt, of Waterloo; three daughters: Carla (Charles) Galer, of Bettendorf, Carol (George) Clark, of Evansdale, and Janice (Eugene) VanDeest, of Plover; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Rolland (Frances) Ohrt, of Evansdale, Gerald Ohrt, of Dunkerton, and John Ohrt, of Missouri; two sisters, Maxine Hyderick, of Arkansas, and Judy (Paul) Vega, of California.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday November 17, at Memorial Park Chapel with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service.
