EVANSDALE — Helen J. Carter, 95, of Evansdale, died at home Saturday, May 12, 2012.

She was born May 8, 1917 in Milan, Mo., daughter of Jacob and Charlotte May Branstetter. She married Harvey E. Carter Oct. 25, 1947, in Rochester, Minn. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1974.

Mrs. Carter worked in the John Deere mill room, Hoxie’s Fruit Co., and the Brown Bottle. She also provided daycare for her grandchildren and was a homemaker.

Survived by a daughter, Judith Carter of Evansdale; eight grandchildren, David Morales, Helen Jo (Cory) Bradley, Michael Johnson, Cheryl (Marcus) Johnson, Lisa (Tom) Ridder, Matthew Johnson, Joshua (Karen) Pederson and Nicholas (Ashley) Best; 16 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Joan Morales; a son, James David Johnson; four grandchildren, Christopher Robin Johnson, Charlotte Jane Johnson, James Randall Johnson and Terry James Johnson; two great-great-grandchildren, Cory and Taylor Tovar; three sisters, Verna Stafford, Gladys Hites and Kathryn Masteller; and two brothers, Claude Branstetter and James in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chape, with entombment in Garden of Memories Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Helen was a talented cook. She enjoyed flowers, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
