JOHNSTON — Mark D. Hall, age 61, of Johnston, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Mercy Hospice, Johnston. He succumbed to his battle with cancer. Memorial services were held Monday, May 7, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Johnston.

Mark was born Aug. 3, 1950, in Waterloo, to Dale M. and Mary L. (Surly) Hall. After high school he attended the University of Northern Iowa, then joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country. He then joined Drake School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1976, and also completed a masters in hospital administration from the University of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991.

He married Ruth Sheets of Red Oak in 1975. She also died of cancer in 1999. Mark married Diane Czapla of Johnston in 2003. Mark was currently employed as Director of Pharmacy with Prairie du Chien Hospital in Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; three children, Eric (Lisa) of Appleton, Wis., Laura (Jeff) Jaffney and daughter Madelyn of De Forest, Wis., and Julie (Josh) Orman and son Alexander of St. Paul, Minn.; two stepchildren, Andrew Czapla of Omaha, Neb., and Alyssa Czapla of Johnston; Mark’s parents, Dale and Mary Hall of Waterloo; and a sister, Linda Goings and children Matt and Jen Goings.

Mark will be remembered for his love of family, camping, fishing and riding his John Deere tractor on the family farm in Nebraska.

Burial will be at a later date.
