WATERLOO — Vinita Mae Curtis, 78, of the Cedar Falls Health Care Center, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Rudy, Ark., daughter of Jasper Newton and Alpha Vinita Long Wood. She married Joseph George Curtis on Oct. 1, 1950, in Dade County, Mo. He died Dec. 31, 1988.

Mrs. Curtis was a homemaker and was a volunteer with the Salvation Army, Allen Hospital and the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. She was a member of the U.S. Navy’s Mother’s Club, and along with her son, Richard, founded the Riverfront Neighborhood Association.

Survived by three sons, Richard and Larry, both of Waterloo, and Michael of Council Bluffs; a daughter, Dianne Espino of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Joshua Curtis, Belen Espino-Curtis and Nina Espino-Curtis, all of Waterloo; a great-grandchild, Shayne King of Waterloo; a brother, Donald Wood of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Hazel Renner and Nadine (Herbert) Smith, both of Cedar Falls.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army.

Vinita loved to help others and greatly enjoyed her time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Bingo player.
