WATERLOO — Edward “Burl” Armstrong, 79, of Waterloo, died at home Thursday, May 3. 3012.
He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Chester, son of Roy and Alyce Callahan Armstrong. He married LaVonne Roethler on Nov. 12, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Church, Elma.
Mr. Armstrong graduated from Riceville High School in 1952. He worked in the canning department at Rath Meat Packing Plant for 18 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for 50 years.
Survived by his wife; two sons, Roland (Linda) and Rodney, both of Waterloo; four daughters, Rhonda Nichols and Rebecca (Leonard) Caughron, both of Waterloo, Rosanne (Jeff) Paine of La Porte City and Regina (Tom) Belmer of Denver; 12 grandchildren, Trisha Gautney, Travis and Trevor Nichols, Brandon Paine, Justin, Jennifer and Joel Caughron, Jessica and John Armstrong, Amber Barnett, Ashlin Hayungs and Kaitlin Armstrong; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mavis Armstrong of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Robert Fickess of Osage.
Preceded in death by a brother, Eugene; two sisters, Helen Fickess, and an infant, Mary Armstrong.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Raymond, with burial in Poyner Township Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.
