CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Ruth A. Van Syoc, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center, Cedar Falls.

She was born December 13, 1926, in Washington, daughter of Harry and Pearl Myers Rossiter. She married Wendell M. Van Syoc on July 31, 1949, in Winfield. He died December 28, 2005.

Mrs. Van Syoc received her bachelor's degree in home economics in 1948 from Iowa State University. She taught in West Union Community School District and Hudson School District prior to becoming a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was past president of the UMW. She was a lifetime member of the Iowa State Alumni Association and served as past president of P.E.O. Chapter R in Cedar Falls.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Celeste Van Syoc of Des Moines; a son, Philip (Debi) of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Myers (Marlene) and Leon (Barbara) Rossiter, both of Winfield; a brother-in-law, Don Richmond of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Jean Van Syoc of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Richmond.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, through the auspices of First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service and also for an hour before services Friday at the church.
