CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Eugene L. "Gene" Marron Sr., 86, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Baltimore, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center of the Western Home Communities.

He was born September 16, 1925, in Baltimore, son of Eugene William and Thelma D. McDermott Marron. He married Mary Lee Zepp on September 21, 1946, in Baltimore.

Mr. Marron graduated from Forest Park High School, Baltimore, in 1942, and attended Western Maryland College. He served in the U.S. Army Eighth Air Force 445th bomb group as a tail gunner in the European theater during World War II. He flew 25 missions over Germany and was awarded the Air Medal. He was a self-employed insurance adjuster and appraiser and owned Appraisers Inc., Baltimore.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church, serving for many years as the chairman of the stewardship committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, and also served the Iowa Diocese as well. He also served the Boy Scouts of America for many years, received the Silver Beaver Award and was appointed to the National Council.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gene L. (Martha) Marron Jr. of Baltimore and Michael L. (Amy) Marron of Avon Lake, Ohio; a daughter, Sherry (Ron) Padavich of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
