CEDAR FALLS- Rachel L. Doran, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at her home.

She was born July 6, 1920 in Waterloo, the daughter of Reverend I.L. and Leonora (Schilling) Baumgartner. She married George A. Caldwell on June 11, 1955 in Des Moines. He preceded her in death. She married John F. Doran on June 18, 1960 in Des Moines. He died October 29, 1968.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1938 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1942 from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She taught high school Art in Chester and Burlington schools before attending Washington University in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked as an Occupational Therapist for a short time at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital, and then for many years at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Survivors include a sister, Becky (LeRoy) Bierwirth of Cedar Falls; 1 nephew; 5 nieces; great-nieces and nephews; 2 stepsons, Roland Doran of Florida, and Richard Doran of Pleasant Hill; and a stepdaughter, Doris Moeller of Ft. Covington, NY.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Baumgartner and Eunice Lentz.

Family directed memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Timothys United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with inurnment in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Western Home Foundation, or Staves Memorial United Methodist Church (2747 East Madison Ave, Des Moines, IA, 50317.
