CEDAR FALLS- Gladys Irene Petersen, 72, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 16, 1936 in Guthrie Center, daughter of Mabel Irene Sweeney. She married Alton Petersen on April 13, 1999 in Cedar Falls.

She earned her RN from Iowa Central Community College in Storm Lake, and was currently employed as an instructor at Hawkeye Community College.

Survivors include her husband, Alton; two sons, Michael (Cindy) Burkitt of Murfreesboro, TN, and Mark (Lisa) Burkitt of Storm Lake; six daughters, Deborah Poe of Montana, Dawn (Tim) Reid of Des Moines, Donita (Gordon) Krueger of Cedar Falls, Madonna (Clinton) Nelson of Cedar Falls, Melanie Burkitt of Kaneohe, HI, and Joy (Brian Beeker) Everhard of S. Sioux City, NE; two step-children, Randall (Melissa) Petersen, and Jennifer Justus of Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, John Schroder, and a granddaughter, Courtney Arnold.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Bible Church, with inurnment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Richardson Funeral Home (266-3525).
