CEDAR FALLS — Arthur E. "Art" Ruthstrom, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, April 2, 2012 at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Chicago, son of Hjalmar and Jennie Carlson Ruthstrom. He married Shirley Snyder on Aug. 16, 1940. She died Aug. 22, 1989.

Mr. Ruthstrom was employed for 38 years with Viking Pump Co., retiring as plant supervisor in 1976.

Survived by two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Niekamp of Kettering, Ohio, and Julie (Jim) McDonald of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Sarah (Ben) Kutz, Stacey Dixon, Matthew (Janet) Niekamp and Mark and Mary Niekamp; and four great-grandchildren, Cayden and Kellen Kutz and Darby and Phoenix Niekamp.

Preceded in death by a brother, Carl.

Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service, preceded by an hour of visitation, with inurnment in Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Art was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball and Bears football.
