Donald Eugene Billings, 61, died Friday, April 6, 2012 at Country View Care Facility.

He was born May 9, 1950, in Des Moines and was adopted by Everett Mode and Geneva Pearl Edsill Billings.

He grew up in Evansdale and graduated from East High School in 1969.

Despite his mental handicap he was able to live independently for 17 years with the help of Cedar Valley Community Social Services. He worked at Allen Hospital, Nino’s Steak House, Waterloo Stave and Silo and most recently at Goodwill Industries. He was active in his church and was very outgoing.

By the grace of God, he overcame his addiction to alcohol and tobacco. He loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his brother, Edward (Lorrie) Billings; a niece, Dawn (Justin) Hanna; nephew, Dustin (Jena) Billings; niece and nephew, Clair and Cole Kurtenbach; and great-niece and -nephews, Michelle, Ranger and Ben.

He was welcomed into heaven by his Mom and Dad, Grandparents, Uncle Sam and Aunt Neva, as well as many other relatives and friends including Cousin Sam.

Services will be Wednesday, April 11, at 6 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale. Friends may call at the church fellowship hall from 4 – 6 p.m. Wednesday. He will be inurned at the Garden of Memories Cemetery following cremation.

Memorials may be directed to Country View Care Facility.
