Graydon was born on Nov. 13, 1921, in Waterloo and passed away in Santa Monica, Calif., on Feb. 29, 2012. He grew up in Waterloo where he met his future wife, Doris Maree Hayes, at Waterloo East High School. They both worked at the Rath Packing Company, and later married on Feb. 16, 1946.

Graydon served with distinction in the U.S. military during World War II for 22 months. He was stationed in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 12, 1946.

He and Doris moved to Santa Monica in 1985. Among many other community activities, he was a valued member of the First United Methodist Church, Santa Monica, the Martin Lodge No. 624, Waterloo, and other Masonic bodies. Other civic contributions by Graydon include membership in the California Elks Lodge (Pasadena), and as a board director and treasurer in the Santa Monica Sister City Association.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra of Des Moines. All of his friends and neighbors very much loved Graydon and his wife Doris, and cherish memories of them as kind, loving people.

Services for Graydon were held at first United Methodist Church, Santa Monica, on March 9, 2012. He was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Santa Monica, along side his beloved wife Doris.
