EVANSDALE — Thomas Jefferson Barnes, 96, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at his grandson and caretaker’s home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Jacksboro, Texas. He married Aileen Sester and she died in 1980. He married Evelyn Broten and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Barnes was employed with Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, and worked as a mechanic out of his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by two sons, Thomas of Hawaii and Gerald Jr. (Cindy) of Evansdale; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, George (Mandie) and Ray of Hobart, Okla., and James (Betty) of Roosevelt, Okla.; and a sister, Helen Brahan of Texas.

Preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Caldwell and Patricia Andersen; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garden of Memories Cemetery, preceded by an hour of visitation at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, both in Waterloo.
