CEDAR FALLS — Mary Catherine Deviney Shining, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Des Moines, daughter of Harold and Kathleen Wacker Deviney. She married William Allen Shining on Dec. 29, 1951, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died April 16, 2005.

Mrs. Shining graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1950. She worked as a legal secretary as well as for Home Savings & Loan, Waterloo.

Survived by two daughters, Kathleen (David) Latta of Waterloo and Julie (Mitch) Craun of Sergeant Bluff; four grandchildren, Christopher (Ally) and Elizabeth (Brent) Latta, Brian (Nicole) Craun and Jamie (Mark) Huygens; a sister, Deborah (Allan) Horovitz of Edina, Minn.; and six nieces and nephews, Christopher and Stewart Shining, James Horovitz, Jennifer Woods, Kathryn Hill and Rebecca Rattigan.

Preceded in death by two sons, Thomas in infancy and Michael.

Memorial service: noon Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 10 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
