CEDAR FALLS — Clyde L. Stitt, 89, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, March 8, at the Iowa Veterans’ Home, Marshalltown.

He was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Sidney, son of Francis and Etta Stitt. He married Fonda Mae Burk on Aug. 2, 1941, and they later divorced. He married Dorothy Holtkamp and they later divorced.

Mr. Stitt attended Waterloo East High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in three major European campaigns, was captured in “The Belgian Bulge,“ and was a Prison of War for four months. He was a fireman with the Waterloo Fire Department from 1945 to 1963. He was a master craftsman and building contractor; he remodeled the Broom Factor and built many homes.

Survived by a son, Steve (Sharon) of Waterloo; a daughter, Vicki (Allan) Clinton of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy; and a brother, Sam.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo. Military honors will be provided by the Iowa Army National Guard and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
