Maureen Rae Mentzer, 58, of Dike, Iowa, died Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Maureen was born June 8, 1947, in Burt, Iowa, the daughter of Loyola "Tim" and Marie (Bahling) O'Brien. She received both her Bachelor of Science degree (1969) in Home Economics and Master of Science degree (1970) in Child Development and Family Living from Iowa State University in Ames.

On December 23, 1968, she was united in marriage to Ralph J. Mentzer in Algona, Iowa at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. She taught Home Economics, Family Living and Child Development at Marshalltown from 1970-72, Marion from 1972-77, Waterloo Columbus 1977-1978, and from 1978 until her retirement in May of 1998 at Dike-New Hartford Junior and Senior High School.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Ralph of Dike, Iowa; daughter, Jana M. Mentzer of Grinnell, Iowa; son Matthew R. Mentzer of Ames, Iowa; sister, Judy (David) Stewart of Waverly; and Neal (Leann) O'Brien of Mendota, Illinois.

Preceding her in death were her parents.
