Ed Merriam was born February 28, 1925, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Melvin E. and Florence R. (Fields) Merriam. He died Monday, August 1, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Following graduating from high school, he went on to serve his Country in the United States Army during World War II. On June 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Barbara Witcraft in Ogden. She preceded him in death. Ed lived most of his life in Des Moines working as a Regional Sales Manager for McKee Foods. In his later years, he moved to Arizona where he lived until his illness brought him back to Iowa.

Ed is survived by his daughter, Nanette (Bob) Dickson of Mesa, AZ; son, Jim (Terri) Merriam of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Nicole (Scott) Terhune, Aaron Merriam, Rob (Annette) Dickson, Ryan (Amy) Dickson; four great grandchildren, Madison Terhune, Lacie Fetters, Jamie Dickson and Shelby Dickson; and sister-in-law, Doris Merriam of Ogden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Tim (Viola) and Bob Merriam.

CEDAR FALLS - Edward W. Merriam, 80, of the Western Home Communities, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Ogden, son of Melvin E. and Florence R. Fields Merriam. He married Barbara Witcraft June 12, 1948, in Ogden. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Merriam was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed as a regional sales manager with McKee Baking Co., retiring in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Nanette (Bob) Dickson of Mesa, Airz.; a son, Jim (Terri) of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren;

Preceded in death by two brothers, Tim and Bob.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Western Home Communities chapel. There will be no visitation. Additional services will be in Mesa, with burial in Velda Rose Garden, Mesa. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
