Patricia Ann Shields (1935-2009)

CEDAR FALLS- Patricia Ann Shields, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, August 19 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born May 4, 1935 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Lester and Harriet (Miner) Troy. She married Patrick O'Connor Shields on April 12, 1958 in Cedar Falls. He died April 10, 2009.

Patricia graduated from Teachers College High School and earned her Registered Nursing degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing.

She is survived by three daughters, Teresa L. (Joel) Gersema of Oran, IA, Leah E. (Steve) Madsen of Marshalltown, IA, and Sara E. (Phillip) Ruhlmann of Cedar Rapids, IA; one son, Patrick J. (Lisa) Shields of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Troy Gersema, Beth Gersema, Jacob Madsen, Benjamin Madsen, Luke Madsen, Madison Ruhlmann, and Ella Shields; and a brother, Robert (Bonnie) Troy of Plant City, FL.

Preceded in death by a sister, Betty Kuehn.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the family.
