Wendell M. Van Syoc, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, December 28 from multiple injuries sustained in an automobile accident December 23.

He was born February 21, 1918 in rural Winfield, son of Perl Ransom and Ada Mason Van Syoc. He married Ruth Rossiter on July 31, 1949 in Winfield.

He served as captain in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War 2, attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant for a year and received his bachelor of science degree in engineering from Iowa State University in 1948.

Mr. Van Syoc was an engineer at the John Deere Product Engineering Center for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He also served as past chairman of the board of trustees at First United Methodiat Church, Cedar Falls, and past president of the Toastmaster Club.

Survived by his wife; one son, Philip K. (Deb) of Farmington, Missouri; one daughter, Celeste S. Van Syoc of Des Moines; one brother, Marvin M. (Jean) of Mount Pleasant; and one sister, Mildred I. Wagner of Paragould, Arkansas.

Services Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
