Herman Hemmen was February 29, 1936, in home in Stout, Iowa, the son of Jake and Marie (Ostendorf) Hemmen. He died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He served his Country in the Iowa National Guard and the United States Army. On December 28, 1974, he was united in marriage to Sharon Hirsch December 28, 1974 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was employed at John Deere in Waterloo from 1965 until his retirement in 1995 and was presently worked part-time at the Sinclair Elevator and Kruger Seed Company. Herman loved fishing and was a devoted father and grandfather.

Herman is survived by his wife, Sharon of Dike; daughters, Cindy Hemmen of Bettendorf and Connie (David) Saathoff of Austin, TX; sons, Douglas (Vikki) Hemmen of San Diego, CA and Daniel (Susan) Hemmen of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Jason, Sara, Kelli, Kiersten, Courtney, Austin and Jessica; brother, Harm (Clarbell) Hemmen of Parkersburg and sister, Marjorie (Harry) Eilderts of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
