Peter A. Swarts, 76, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Saturday evening, February 10, 2007, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes.

Pete was born on July 16, 1930, in Aurora, Iowa, the son of Peter and Amelia Nehring Swarts. After attending school, Pete went to work on the family farm and as a farmhand for other local farmers. Pete then served in the United States Air Force. He was married to Mildred Slater and they were later divorced.

On August 2, 1968, he was united in marriage to Robin Stout in Galena, Illinois. The couple settled in the Cedar Falls area, until purchasing their acreage outside of New Hartford. Robin passed away on June 27, 2005. Pete worked for over twenty-seven years as a pattern mounter in the foundry at John Deere in Waterloo. He continued working during his retirement as a farmhand for Bryan Redenius’ farm in rural Parkersburg.

Pete raced stock cars for many years and continued following the sport through his attendance at races. He also enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.

Pete is survived by four sons, Rick (Mary) Swarts of New Hartford, David (Cathy) Swarts of Cedar Falls, Mike (Tammy) Swarts of New Hartford and William Kirchmann of Grundy Center; two daughters, Kathi (Thayne) Benz of Storm Lake and Barb (Scott) Mead of New Hartford; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Sandy) Swarts of Clearwater, Florida; and one sister, Kathryn Miller of Independence, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; three sisters and one son, Douglas Swarts.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Thursday, February 15, 2007, at the New Hartford United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the New Hartford United Methodist Church and for one hour before the service on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, 207 20th St. N.W, Waverly, Iowa 50677. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of arrangements.
