Jay J. Dunn (1924-2009)

CEDAR FALLS- Jay J. Dunn, 84, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born October 12, 1924 in Whitten, the son of Charles A. and Roxy Vinton Dunn. He married June I. Averill on July 18, 1950 in Waterloo.

Mr. Dunn graduated from Whitten High School in 1942 and served as a paratrooper during WWII. He was employed as a machine operator with John Deere Tractor Works for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1983. He served the 1st ward of Cedar Falls as Councilman and was a member of Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, June; three daughters, Nancy (Jim) Holt of Richardson, TX, Linda (Alan) Jones of Cedar Falls, and Mary Dunn of Waterloo, IA; six grandchildren, Holli (Bill) Neil, James (Jodi) Ogle, Patrick (Jennifer) Jones, Steven Dutcher, Katie (Keith) Fleshner, and Jacob (Elizabeth) Dutcher; seven great-grandchildren, Marisa, Matthew and Megan Neil, Jae, Riley and Avery Fleshner, and Aiden Dutcher; one brother, Eugene (Ruth) Dunn of Granbury, TX; and two sisters, Fannie Mae Lindquist of Sioux Falls, SD, and Opal Brown of Eldora.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Military Honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 6 p.m. scripture service. Visitation also for one hour before Mass Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
