WATERLOO, IOWA - Daniel Louis Kragel, 61, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 28, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of Lou Gehrig's disease.

He was born April 5, 1950, in Cedar Falls, son of Arthur and Marian Oligney Kragel. He married Melanie Gant on June 28, 2009, at their residence in Waterloo.

Mr. Kragel attended Waterloo East High School until 1968 and later received an accounting degree from Hawkeye Community College. He retired from Wonder Bread trucking after 24 years of service.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Marsha Parmely Harrington, Jamie DeVries (Eric Hansen) and Michelle (Jeff) Vore; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Jonathan, Lorilynn, Chase, Linsie, Ian, Ashton and Skyler; three stepchildren, Jason Gruis (Tabitha Olsen-Smith), and Rachel and Keith Gruis; a step-grandson, Jakai; his father; three brothers, Edward (Jaci) Kenney, Michael Kragel and Tom (Donna) Kragel; and a sister, Margie (Jim) Welshons.

Preceded in death by his mother.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, preceded by an hour of visitation.

Memorials may be directed to ALS.

For his family and friends, we mourn our loss. There is pain and there are tears, but also great joy that we were a part of the life of a very special man. We are his legacy, greater than any monument ever erected. We will carry him in our hearts forever.
