CEDAR FALLS - John J. Birdsall, 85, of Western Home Communities, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 7, 1921, in Atlantic, son of John T. and Venice L. Clark Birdsall. He married Francis Miller June 4, 1941, in San Francisco. She died July 1, 1996. He then married Christine Thayer June 26, 1998, in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Birdsall served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was lead custodian at the Cedar Falls Community Schools, retiring Nov. 30, 1986.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Carolynn Heilig of Larkspur, Calif.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a stepdaughter, Sharon Thayer of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a sister, Betty, in infancy.

Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church chapel. There will be no visitation. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
