GILBERTVILLE — Jerome R. Nie, 63, of Gilbertville, died Thursday, March 22, at his home.

He was born April 22, 1948, in Waterloo, son of Louis Martin Nie and Hilda Clara Zieser Nie. He married Toni Johnson Aug. 14, 1976, in Jesup. They later divorced.

He graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville in 1967. Mr. Nie farmed, was a truck driver and worked in the cattle breeding industry. He was an adviser to the production crew for the movie, “Country,” and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Survived by two daughters, Sara (Michael) Hazel of Des Moines and Emily (Joshua) Simmons of Ankeny; four grandchildren; two sisters, Karen (Jim) Rottinghaus of La Porte City and Kathleen (Michael) Murphy of Waterloo; and a brother, Donald of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Lenora Nie and Rosella Sadler; and a brother, Laverne.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
