GILBERTVILLE — Eugene J. Frost, 86, of Gilbertville, died Saturday, March 24, at Allen Hospital.
He was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Gilbertville, son of Michael and Clara Reuter Frost. He married Inez Lacy Phillips Nov. 13, 1948, in Gilbertville. She died Oct. 7, 1995.
Mr. Frost served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a 2nd Class Seamen. He was a self-employed electrician for more than 50 years until retirement. He was also a scoutmaster for 30 years, and helped operate the Family Frost Tavern for about 10 years. He served the community as mayor and councilmember, was a Don Bosco school board member, and a member of Gilbertville fire department as an EMT and first responder for 50 years.
Survived by five sons, Michael (Doreen) of Waterloo, Thomas (Brenda) of Joplin, Mo., Larry (Deneen) of Roland, and Jeffrey (Gina) and Scott (Peggy), all of Gilbertville; two daughters, Cheryl (John) Schaefer of Washburn and Debra (Cal) Hubbard of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Jerome (Donna) of Readlyn and Gerald (Rosemary) of Hiawatha; a sister, Lucille Mangrich of Gilbertville; more than 30 grandchildren; and more than 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Linda (Dale) Jensen; three brothers, Arnold (Rosemary), Raphael (Rose) and Andrew; and a sister, Theresa (Richard) O’ Connell.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilbertville, with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery, both in Gilbertville, with full military rites conducted by Nugent Demuth post 714 of Gilbertville. Public Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
