WATERLOO - Albert M. Dolan, M.D., 84, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 17, at home.

He was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Thomas "Tim" and Edna Wolff Dolan. He married Kathryn M. Beenken on Sept. 5, 1949, in Blessing.

Al attended grade school and high school at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps in Long Beach, Calif. He attended Creighton University Medical School, graduating with a M.D. degree in 1954. He served one year internship at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines.

In July 1955 he began his practice with Medical Associates in Evansdale. In 1972 his office moved to St. Francis Hospital. He retired in 1995. He was Assistant Medical Examiner to Dr. Paul O'Keefe from 1961 to 1977. He was the Black Hawk County Medical Examiner from 1977 to 2007.

Dr. Dolan was a member of the Iowa Academy of Family Practice, the American Academy of Family Practice, the Black Hawk County Medical Society, the Iowa Medical Society, the Judicial Council of Iowa Medical Society. He was vice president and a member of the trustees of the Iowa Medical Society, the president of the Black Hawk County Medical Society, the president of St. Francis Hospital staff. He was a member of the Utilization and Peer Review Committee and chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee of Covenant Medical Center. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a founding member of the Sullivan Brothers Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Kevin and Katy Dolan of Seattle, Karen and Mark Rauenhorst of Long Lake, Minn., Dan and Lari Lee Dolan of Ketchum, Idaho, David and Julie Dolan of Seattle, and Marisa Dolan of Cedar Falls; his grandchildren, Chris Dolan, Jeff Rauenhorst, Matthew Rauenhorst, Kristine Rauenhorst, Sarah Rauenhorst and Keely Dolan; his great-grandchildren, Leigh and Grace Dolan and Sophia and Nathan Rauenhorst; and his brother, Jim and Jeanette Dolan of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence, Jack and Tom Dolan; and three sisters, Kate Mrzlak, Miriam Penrose and Pat Berend.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward's Catholic Church, Blessed Maria Assunta Middle School or Cedar Valley Hospice.
