WATERLOO — Mica L. Powers, 37, of Waterloo, formerly of Iowa City, died Friday, March 16, at her residence of complications from a past illness.

She was born July 24, 1974, in Waterloo, daughter of Rick and Karla Powers McNelly.

She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1992, and attended Grace College, Indiana, and Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids. She worked at Four Queens in Waterloo, Hy-Vee Catering in Iowa City and Coralville, and Beat the Bookstore in Iowa City. She volunteered during the Waterloo and Iowa City floods in 2008, the tornado in Joplin, Mo., and in Louisiana following hurricane Katrina. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church.

Survived by her parents of Waterloo; two brothers, Brandon (Sarah) Powers and Tony (Angela) McNelly, all of Evansdale; and two sisters, Tammie (Merritt) Wayland of Des Moines and Jennie (Nick) Puls of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a sister, Misty McNelly Brockway.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mica L. Powers memorial fund at Iowa Community Credit Union.
