GRESS, ANDERSON, WAKEMAN, DUPUIS, OSWALD

CEDAR FALLS — Phyllis Alberta Gress, 96, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, March 4, at NewAldaya Lifescapes of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Webster City, daughter of Henry and Bertie Anderson Wakeman. She married Donald W. Gress. He died in 1968.

Mrs. Gress received an associate degree from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She was employed with the Waterloo Community School System as a teacher’s aide during her working career until retiring and was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survived by a daughter, Kathryn DuPuis of Baton Rouge, La.; and a grandson, Mark DuPuis of Baton Rouge.

Preceded in death by two brothers, George and Louie Wakeman; and two sisters, Pearl Wakeman and Lola Oswald.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Saturday at NewAldaya Lifescapes.

Memorials may be directed to NewAldaya Lifescapes or Iowa Hospice.

Phyllis was an excellent cook, especially when preparing wild game, and held an extensive teddy bear collection, which began from her grandson. The most remembered and loved memory of Phyllis was of her being family-orientated; she was there for her family at all times.
