RAYMOND — Maxine Elizabeth Phillips Even, 88, of Raymond, formerly of Jesup, died Saturday, March 3, in Raymond.

She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Stanley, daughter of Frank and Anna Michels Phillips. She married Cletus John Even Oct. 28, 1942, in Gilbertville. He died April 1, 2011.

The couple farmed in the Gilbertville/Jesup area. She was a homemaker, and a member of Catholic Order of Foresters, Rosary Society/St. Elizabeth Circle, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survived by eight sons, Larry (Brenda) of Washburn, Ken (Sharon) and Fritz (Penny), all of Waterloo, Ron (Angie) of Meservey, Jeff (Sue) and David (Karen), all of Jesup, and Eugene (Paula) and Leo (Vickie), all of Gilbertville; five daughters, Rose (Robert) Voigt of Raymond, Sue Norem of Gilbertville, Carol (Kyle) Berry of Dewar, Diana ( Mike) Hogan of Eagan, Minn., and Laurie (Larry) Mishler of Jesup; 48 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cletus (JoAnn) Phillips of La Porte City; and two sisters-in-law, Mathilda “Tillie “ Phillips of Independence and Beatrice “Bea” Phillips of Jesup.

Preceded in death by: three sons, LeRoy, Randy Joe and Cletus Jr.; two grandchildren, Andrea and Patrick Even; a son-in-law, LaVerne Norem; five brothers, Clarence (Philomena “Phille”) Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Norbert (Eva Mae) and (Elizabeth “Betty”) Phillips, Francis Phillips and Delbert Phillips; and two sisters, Dorothy (Albert “Sam”) Freet and Lillian (Vernon) Sommerfelt.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Bosco System Catholic Schools or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Maxine enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, cooking and raising her family. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and was proud of the fact that they visited all 50 states, Germany, and Panama.
