WATERLOO - Erma Mary Heyer, 94, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, Feb. 27.

She was born May 12, 1917, in Caledonia, Minn., daughter of Peter and Cathrine Mersch Mechtel. She married Emmett Heyer in Preston, Minn., on Dec. 31, 1938. He died June 5, 1999. She then married George Peters in Waterloo on Sept. 23, 2000. He died July 3, 2004.

Mrs. Heyer worked for 10 years at Rath Meat Packing Co., then stayed home for 10 years to raise her children. She worked the next 20 years as a waitress at the Electric Park, Ramada Inn and Porky’s Red Carpet, but primarily at the Elks Club.

Survived by a son, Steven of Waterloo; a daughter, Debra (Steven) Digmann of Waterloo; a grandson, Matthew (Ashley) Digmann of Tucson, Ariz.; and two great-grandchildren, Rae Maddison and Ethan Digmann.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Heron, Roy, Leland and Norman Mechtel; and six sisters, Anne Schmitz, Agnes Mechtel, Del Rose Theory, Bernice Merritt, Isabelle Lee Eckholt and Leone Lee.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Allen Hospital Hospice.

Erma golfed and bowled, but her most pleasurable hobby was dancing.
