WEST DES MOINES - James LeRoy Brinkman, 74, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Urbandale, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines.

Jim was born on Sept. 6, 1937, in Waterloo, to Evelyn (Guynn) and Glenn Brinkman. He grew up in Waterloo and attended Loras College, Dubuque. Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later became a deputy sheriff in Black Hawk County. He was a self-employed contractor for many years in the Des Moines area.

Jim will be greatly missed by his best friend and companion, Carol Mullahey of West Des Moines; his children, Lori (Tony) Hinders of Waverly, Tami (Vince) Schons of Cedar Falls and Greg (Amy) Brinkman of Afton, Minn.; his grandchildren, Brandon, Erin, Lauren, Tyler, Brittany, Alyssa, Adam and Danielle; and his sister, Annette Shabbits of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
