WATERLOO - Verda K. Guyer, 89, of Friendship Village, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Friendship Village.

She was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Fort Dodge, daughter of Hildreth and Alma Ford Nelson. She married James Guyer in 1944 in Waterloo. He died in 1982.

Mrs. Guyer graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1940. She and her husband owned and operated the Gorge Motel, Bonneyville, Wash., for many years. She retired to Waterloo in 1983.

Survived by a brother-in-law, Delano Kendall of Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law, Jean Nelson of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother, William Nelson; and two sisters, Dixie Kendall and Beverly Faucher.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in the cemetery. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, Friendship Village Auxiliary or the Salvation Army, in lieu of flowers.
