WATERLOO - Wendell G. Harms, 89, of Waterloo, formerly of New Hartford and Keystone, died Friday, Feb. 17, at Friendship Village Retirement Center of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in rural Shell Rock, son of Gerhardt and Elma Coster Harms. He married Rosetta "Rosie" Davis on Feb. 22, 1948, at Grace Methodist Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Harms graduated from New Hartford High School in 1941. He farmed for more than 50 years in the New Hartford and Keystone area, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army as an antiaircraft gunner during World War II and was a member of Grace Reformed Church and New Hartford American Legion Post 660.

Survived by his wife, two sons, William (Myra) of Grayslake, Ill., and Rod (Cheryl) of Chongqing, China; two grandchildren, Jeremy Harms and Emily (Michael) Doran; four stepgrandchildren, Michael Cox, Andrew Cox, Shelly Parris and Joe Bush; and two great-grandchildren, Ian Doran and Grant Doran.

Preceded in death by a son, Wendell Jr.; two sisters, Maxine Madsen and Norma Laubscher; and a brother, Vernon.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Reformed Church, Waterloo, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock. Military honors will be conducted by New Hartford American Legion Post 660 and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.
