BIRETZ, STRENGE, WILDEBOER, SMITH

WATERLOO - Gretchen M. Biretz, 91, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Plano, Texas, of natural causes.

She was born May 9, 1920, in Parkersburg, daughter of George and Florence L. Strenge Wildeboer. She married Harry J. Biretz on May 9, 1941 in Albert Lea, Minn. He died Nov. 27, 1988.

Mrs. Biretz at one time worked as a housekeeping technician at Allen Memorial Hospital. She also was a homemaker.

Survived by three sons, Merlin and Robert (Nancy Bartlett), both of Waterloo, and Roger (Evelyn) of Carrollton, Texas; a daughter, Gretchen (Daniel) Nesteby of Janesville; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bruno Wildeboer of Clayton.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys Smith; and two brothers, Phillip and John Wildeboer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Gretchen was a compassionate person, whose family was very important to her. She enjoyed being outside, gardening and camping. She collected angels, doves and porcelain dolls. She was an excellent seamstress and loved dancing with her husband at the Electric Park and Riviera Ballrooms. She was a classy lady who enjoyed life.
