Leonard A. Greiner, 90, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard Greiner will be 10:30 am Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 415 Main Street, Iowa Falls, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa, with a 7:00 pm church vigil service. Burial will be at the St. Mark Cemetery, Iowa Falls, with military honors provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post #188, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd Street SE, Mason City, IA 50401, or to St. Mark Catholic Church, 415 Main Street, Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Alfred "Leonard" Terence Greiner was born March 9, 1920, at Ogilvie, Manitoba, Canada, the son of Margaret [Bohrofen] and George Alexander Greiner. He graduated from the Hudson, Iowa Community Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 13, 1942 and on November 2, 1943, he was discharged as a Sergeant so he could reenlist on November 3, 1943, as a First Lieutenant. He served as a pilot during Normandy and Southern France and Western Europe Campaigns receiving several Battle Participation Credits, the American Legion Medal for outstanding work. the 1st Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was retired on August 29, 1945.

On January 30, 1946 Leonard was united in marriage to Mary Louise Hermann at Roseville, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Margaret, James, Steven, Joan, and John. The couple farmed northeast of Alden, Iowa for many years. He was a member of the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post # 188, Iowa (Past Commander), also Past Commander of the Hardin County Contingent of the American Legion, the Highland Golf Club, and former member of the Iowa Falls Kiwanis.

Leonard is survived by his wife: Mary Greiner of Iowa Falls; his children: James [Barbara] Greiner of Iowa Falls, Steven [Beverly] Greiner of Ackley, Iowa, Joan [Randy] Jennings of Iowa Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a sister: Dorothy Pitts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Margaret Greiner; a daughter: Margaret Louise Greiner an infant son: John Greiner; brothers: John Greiner, Paul Greiner, Joseph Greiner, Lawrence Greiner, Raymond Greiner; and sisters: Veronica Greiner, Eda Sherry, Leona Merfeld, and Cathryn Gerhard.
